" We had a truly wonderful stay at Miðhraun – Lava Resort! Tucked away in the Icelandic countryside, this location was perfect for exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in a loop

We traveled as a family, and our kids especially loved being on a working sheep farm — there were sheep and lambs roaming all around, which made the stay feel magical.

The thermal pool and sauna were incredible and made for a relaxing end to our days. There’s also a cold plunge pond and a beautiful little creek nestled along a lava rock hill — it was like something out of a storybook. Our children also adored the outdoor play area, especially the bouncing pad.

What our Guests SAY

Perhaps the chief has a star

I've been on a 2 weeks tour with a bicylce and stayed for a night. I had the cottage, which is close to the restaurant. A very decent cottage with everything in excellent shape. The staff is very friendly and explains everything. I highly recommend to everyone to have dinner and breakfest at the restaurant. It has been extreamly yummi!!!!!

Amazing rooms

The rooms are amazing, the beds are really comfortable and everything is very modern. We arrived late at night and were still able to check in so that removed a lot of the pressure for us on the road.

Superb

Spotless accomodation, well equipped kitchen, nice location. We also took the chance to use the geothermal pool in the night and this was quite relaxing after a long day. We also had a chance to see the northern lights from here.

What a beautiful location

What a beautiful location and beautiful place to stay. Food was absolutely excellent and service really nice and friendly. This place cares greatly about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, you can see it in all the small details, decorations and fresh flowers.

This restaurant is 100% worth recommending! 🌟

Although it’s a bit hidden and sometimes might seem like there aren’t many people inside, it’s honestly one of the best places we’ve tried in Iceland! It may look more expensive than it actually is, but the prices are very similar to most restaurants in the country.

Excellent accommodation and dinner

Stayed here for two nights and booked two rooms in preparation for a wedding. Excellent accommodations and dinner at the restaurant was very good. Loved the spa and steam room.

The best meal we had in Iceland!!

The best meal we had in Iceland!! Yes it’s on the pricier side but definitely worth it. We did two 3 course meals and it filled us up at a happy level, not too little or too full. The lobster and shrimp appetizer were amazing! I’d order that over and over.

Nice place to stay

We got upgraded to a private house, a very nice living space. There is a geothermal pool and sauna, but we didn't have time to try them. Breakfast feast looks very good, but it is not included/ must be booked online beforehand during the off season.

Relax in an environment equipped with everything

Rational bungalows, equipped with everything (dishwasher...) overlooking the plain with sheep grazing. The restaurant is excellent. A hot tube with thermal water at 40 ° and cold spring next to 4 ° (if you want...)

Luxury at an affordable price

Superb accommodation at a great price. Includes the use of an outside hot pool with optional restaurant facilities. Feels remote with great modern facilities. Would stay again

The resort exceeded our expectations

Very nice houses. Bedrooms were good sized with nice beds. Bathroom was clean and the shower had excellent pressure. Lots of room in the house and it was overall a great place to stay for four adults. The restaurant and thermal bath were also very nice. Overall, the resort exceeded our expectations.

Very good time for two

We had just tested the restaurant, but incredible moment in love, the welcome is great, the lamb was amazing and the cocktails of absolute delicacy... It was our first restaurant in Iceland on our second night on the road trip, and a big surprise on the way out: Northern Lights!

Great stay for two nights

So big house and very good space. It has kitchen with dishwasher and just everything else. Then the shower was great with big shower head. The rooms were also big and beds good to sleep. They have all kinds of activities for children. After long day it was time to to hot spring pool next to the lava field. Great stay for two nights.

10/10

My now wife and I had our wedding reception here. We all had the dinner buffet and it was excellent! The soups and entrees were amazing and it sounds basic, but the whipped butter they have with the bread is crazy good! The owners were very kind and friendly and made excellent accommodations! Additionally the cottages are very nice and cozy. 10/10 would recommend to anyone that finds themselves in on Snæfellsness!

I’m shocked this place doesn’t have more reviews

Wow, we randomly stumbled upon this place while driving in the area and this might be one of the best meals I’ve had in iceland. We got the lobster and shrimp as a starter and it was the perfect level of creamy and peppery! We then had the lamb and fish of the day which were both 10/10. The sauces were AMAZING and the fish and lamb were juicy and tender. The blueberry cheesecake was soft and not too sweet which I love! I’m shocked this place doesn’t have more reviews.

We would highly recommend this place!

We stopped in for a spur of the moment visit on our way out of the Snæfellsjökull National Park. Every item we had was delicious! A cocktail with unique flavor combinations, fresh fish, delicious fresh vegetables (prepared with great flavors) juicy chicken… We would highly recommend this place!

The staff were all very friendly, and the chef came out to say hello

We stayed one night in a private family cottage that comfortably slept 6 of us. It was very nice, spacious, and comfortable. The restaurant is in a separate building that has a very warm and charming atmosphere, and dinner was the best we had during our entire trip. The staff were all very friendly, and the chef came out to say hello. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our stay, and can’t wait to return.

Food was super delicious, We got the steak, fish of the day and lamb. They were super polite and kind hearted waiter and waitress. Complementary chocolate cake as well for redo of steak but 2nd serving was done with perfection!

The ambience is also superb with minimalistic lighting and a very authentic setting.

A Countryside Wedding to Remember – 2027 Dates Now Available
February 23, 2026
After a short and gentle winter with almost no snow, we are now preparing for the upcoming summer season. Bookings are coming in steadily, and our calendar is already beginning to fill up. We can feel that spring is just around the corner. The months ahead will bring many wonderful events to Miðhraun, including weddings, confirmation celebrations, family reunions, choir gatherings, and other special occasions. Our restaurant Hlaðan and the bar will also be open to everyone — both staying guests and visitors passing through the area. Spring is always a magical time here. Nature slowly awakens from its winter rest, fresh greenery begins to appear, and birds return with their song. Toward the end of April, the lambing season begins on the farm — always a special and lively time of year as the first little lambs arrive. It is also the time when our fantastic summer staff begin to return, full of energy and excitement for the season ahead. Last week we welcomed back Dominika and Dawid, who worked with us last year, along with Justína who has been part of our team for several years. More of our summer staff will gradually arrive as we move closer to summer. This year also marks a special milestone for us, as our restaurant Hlaðan is now open all year round for the first time. Our wonderful chef Ársæll, together with his wife Anna, has been running the restaurant beautifully and delighting our guests with their excellent food and warm hospitality. Our second chef has also returned from his winter holiday and is currently helping with another project within the company. When the high season begins, he will return to the kitchen team. At Miðhraun, we always enjoy creating a welcoming atmosphere and bringing new ideas to life. We have several exciting plans in the works, and we look forward to sharing more with you as the season unfolds.
